Each time you face a crossroad in life there are choices to be made.

Some you don’t even notice you are making while others are likely to keep you up all night.

You can choose to love or choose to hate.

You can choose to rise above or resent a situation which clouds your vision.

You can choose to be uncaring in a situation that needs you to be caring.

You can choose to be considerate of others or live with selfish pride.

You can choose to forgive or let bitterness and anger grow into a festering wound.

You can choose to live according to God’s ways or be lost with no sense of direction.

You can choose to embrace the life you’ve been given or live without aspirations.

With each choice there is always a consequence. It is the universal law of ‘cause and effect’. But whatever choice you make, stop yourself from thinking of it as a right or wrong choice.

See your choices as opportunities to grow. Each time you make a decision that does not align   with the person you are or want to become, you have the opportunity to evaluate and self-correct.

If you choose to isolate yourself from others for fear of being hurt, your life will be empty and lonely.

If you’re afraid to do something for fear of failure, you will live with doubt and regret for not having the courage to try.

You experience life through the decisions you make. These experiences will guide you to the choices you make in the future. The choices you make are there to teach and guide you and help you gain experience throughout life.

Just like not all lessons are comfortable to learn, not all crossroads in life lead to a gloomy dead end. A crossroad may present itself merely to help you find a way to break through obstacles standing in your way of progressing ahead. Sometimes crossroads can be a turning point in life.

If you find yourself at a crossroad, take the opportunity to make the most of whatever decision you need to make. Forget the past. Ask yourself: ‘Who are you now? Who have you decided you really are now? Don’t think about who you have been. Who are you now? Who have you decided to become? Make the decision consciously. Make it carefully. Make it powerfully!’

Crossroads are life lessons learned throughout a lifetime that contribute towards personal development. Life lessons are universally true and unchanging, so they offer security and comfort. Your experiences will make you more understanding of others. You learn different lessons at each stage of life, and during a crisis such as reaching a crossroad, you will learn an abundance of lessons. Some good, others not so pleasant, but in the end they will add value to who you are, enhance who you will become, and they will enrich your life in ways you could not have imagined.

Within you lies extraordinary potential to overcome anything. Have the courage to embrace the lesson and you will reap the blessing that inevitably follows.

Given the choice, would you walk the road less travelled or would you stay on the well forged path?
